On November 14, 2024, the Spanish Parliament passed amendments to the Law on Judicial Efficiency, bringing the country closer to ending its Golden Visa program. The Senate, controlled by the Partido Popular (PP), which opposes the bill, will now review the legislation.<\/p>\n

The Senate can propose amendments or delay implementation for up to two months. The law requires final approval from the Parliament and publication in the Official State Gazette (BOE) to come into effect.<\/p>\n

Prime Minister Pedro S\u00e1nchez announced plans to end the program in April 2024, citing rising housing prices and the potential for exploitation by foreign criminals.<\/p>\n

The Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party (PSOE) was unable to include the termination in the new land law but later secured committee approval for the justice system bill with 20 votes in favor and 17 against.<\/p>\n

The legal text ensures that investors or family members of investors “who, before the entry into force of this transitional provision, have submitted the corresponding application, may obtain the corresponding visa or permit in accordance with the regulations in force on the date of submission of the application.”<\/p>\n

This means investors have until the BOE is published to submit their applications. The PSOE is pushing for the Golden Visa to be canceled in January 2025, although questions remain about non-real estate investment paths, as the final bill excluded specific provisions on these options.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
