Maltese Education – A Comprehensive Education

Education has always been one of the top priorities of the Maltese government. With the philosophy of inclusive education, every child in Malta has the opportunity to study and develop to their full potential.

Free education policy

Malta has a British-standard education. All children in Malta are exempt from tuition fees until the age of 16. Children receive free textbooks, school supplies, as well as a shuttle bus to their homes.

In Malta, schools require children to wear a school uniform. Parents only have to pay a single fee, which is the fee for the child’s uniform. For children of Maltese Permanent Residents who are not yet citizens of Malta, you only have to pay a very low fee for the children.

In general, compared to international schools in Vietnam, these tuition fees are much lower.

Oriented to develop high-level knowledge

Maltese education always creates the maximum conditions for children to express their full potential naturally. Lessons are taught most intuitively and vividly, to increase the best interaction for students. As a result, children are formed and have clear career development orientations in the future.

In public schools, each child will be allocated 1 iPad to serve the learning and teaching of teachers.

The school system in Malta

There are two main school systems in Malta: public schools and private schools. Since Malta implements a standard British education policy, there is no significant difference between these two school systems.

Public schools are available in every county and town in Malta, and tuition-free schools are available to all Maltese citizens. Just like in Vietnam, public schools often teach by line, so you can choose a school for your child in the area where you live.

Private schools in Malta include a private school and a religious school, with classes from kindergarten through high school. Depending on the school, parents will contribute an annual maintenance fee, but at a very low and symbolic rate. Private schools have a teaching policy that complies with the standards of the Ministry of Education of Malta, including compulsory and elective subjects.

Malta also has special schools for children with disabilities. They are equipped with modern equipment and are supported by many qualified teachers to integrate into normal life.

In Malta, the most famous university is the National University of Malta, which is also the oldest university in Europe. The school is 400 years old and has the best training quality. Education in Malta is a cross-sectional, step-by-step system that aims to form the whole person. In 2017, UNESCO ranked Malta 2nd in the world for foundation education.

Classes are held with a size of about 18 students per class so that teachers can focus on each student. According to Maltese regulations, a class cannot be overcrowded. Primary schools can only accept up to 25 students/class and high schools accept up to 24 students/class.

Children can learn natural subjects, foreign languages and participate in many extra-curricular activities. With a holistic education philosophy, no child is left behind. For children who are slower than other children, the school will have a 1:1 private tutoring class between teachers and students. For children of Maltese Permanent Residents, who learn English more slowly than others, the school will also open an English class of 1:1 tutoring class to help them keep up with the lessons in class.

Malta has a practice-oriented education, and all teachers in Malta hold highly qualified qualifications. Teachers in Malta have to pass many rigorous tests before they can teach. Teachers in Malta are also thoroughly trained to recognize and develop the potential of every child.
