CANADA DEPLOYS THE ELECTRONIC VACCINE PASSPORT

Canada is working on an electronic vaccine passport, allowing Canadians to travel abroad. It is expected that the electronic vaccine passport will be deployed in the next few months.

To build an electronic record, Canada needs to agree on a common approach with the 10 provinces. And three northern territories that hold data on vaccination against COVID-19. Canada is also working with other countries to get vaccine passports recognized. This vaccine certification will include data on the vaccine type, date and location of each injection.

According to Intergovernmental Affairs Minister Dominic LeBlanc, Canada will roll out electronic vaccine passports, but will also issue paper copies to citizens in need.

Immigration Minister Marco Mendicino said. “This is an important step forward, ensuring Canadians will have the necessary documents when traveling safely.”

Efforts of the province of Canada and other countries

In September, Quebec is expected to require citizens to present a QR code to prove that they have been fully vaccinated. The province of Manitoba has also issued certification cards to residents who have completed their second injection 2 weeks ago.

Earlier, the European Union approved an electronic vaccine passport system, allowing citizens of European countries to travel freely in the region. Several other countries are also working to deploy electronic vaccine passports for both domestic and international travel.
