CRYPTOCURRENCY RECOGNIZED! St. Kitts & Nevis Opens Path for Investors to Obtain Citizenship Through Crypto
The Citizenship by Investment Unit (CIU) of Saint Kitts & Nevis has made a significant policy shift by officially recognizing cryptocurrency as a “partial” source of wealth for citizenship applicants. This marks an important step toward aligning with the growing influence of digital assets in the global financial market.
Policy Changes
According to an announcement from the CIU’s Communications Division to its authorized agents, the acceptance of cryptocurrency as a source of wealth will require:
- Additional due diligence fees
- Separate wealth verification documentation
This decision places Saint Kitts & Nevis on par with Hong Kong, where the Capital Investment Entrant Scheme (CIES) began accepting cryptocurrency holdings as valid proof of wealth earlier this year.

Expanded Financial Sponsorship Options
The CIU has also introduced new financial sponsorship options for citizenship applications. Specifically:
- Parents or children of the main applicant can now financially sponsor an application, provided they are validated by birth certificates.
- Sponsors must submit comprehensive documentation, including:
- Application forms
- Employment letters
- Proof of address
- Recent bank statements
- Reference letters
- Sponsors will be subject to due diligence checks and must pay the associated fees.
Name Change Policy
The CIU has also stopped processing name change requests on Certificates of Registration. Name changes will now only be processed during passport renewal, with previous names listed on the passport’s observation page.
The revised policy reflects Saint Kitts & Nevis’ strategic shift toward embracing cryptocurrency and modern financial instruments, offering new opportunities for global investors seeking citizenship through innovative and flexible financial options.
